How do you jump into a modern comic crossover without feeling lost?
#1
I’ve been slowly getting back into comics after years away, and I picked up a few recent issues that are part of a bigger crossover. Honestly, I’m feeling a bit lost with all the tie-ins and references to past events I never read. Does anyone else find it hard to just jump into a modern storyline without feeling like you need a research degree to get the full picture?

Totally get this. Jumping into a massive crossover can feel like starting a movie in the middle of a chase, and the continuity gets rough if you skipped the back issues.

I’ll admit I sometimes skim the tie-ins and just go with what the current issue shows, not the whole history—is that wrong?

Reading orders help, but they can explode your brain. I pick a core arc and let the rest be optional.

I try treating it like a season of a show—you catch the gist from the main arcs and the background stuff is optional.

Sometimes I drop the crossover and read a solo title about one character; not perfect, but it scratches the itch.

There was a time I chased every tie-in and ended up with a pile of issues that barely tie together. I ditched that plan.

The art and pacing can carry you even when the threads feel loose, but the premise of jumping in fresh is very real.
