How do you get into immersive podcast dramas without getting overwhelmed?
#1
I’ve been trying to get into more narrative podcasts lately, and a friend mentioned one that’s supposed to be a really immersive audio drama. I started listening, but I’m finding it hard to follow the story with all the sound effects and layered voices—it just feels a bit overwhelming. Does anyone else have this experience, or am I just not giving it enough time to click?

Yeah I get that it can feel overwhelming at first with all the layers and effects in immersive podcasts, the narrative can get buried.

I tried one and stopped after a while because it sounded like noise more than a story.

I am skeptical this is for everyone maybe it is meant to be puzzling on purpose.

Maybe start with a shorter episode or a simpler one to get a sense of how the world is built.

If you can afford it try listening with one earbud so you can still hear the dialogue without being pulled too far by the soundscape.

In my own run the narrative clicked when I stopped chasing every little cue and focused on what the characters say.

Immersive audio dramas demand active listening, which clashes with how most people consume podcasts passively.
