How do you deal with loving a book but disliking its main character?

I just finished a book that everyone seems to adore, but I found the main character completely insufferable. I feel like I must have missed something everyone else got, because I spent the whole time just wanting them to make one decent decision. Has anyone else ever had that jarring disconnect with a critically acclaimed novel?

I get that vibe when a book gets all the praise and you end up with a character who just wont budge I kept hoping for one decent decision and it never came from that character.

Maybe I am missing the point but the book stuck with me in a weird way. The writing carried it even though the choices felt off.

I am not sure the premise makes sense or if the hype just hides weak spots. I did not buy the big reveal and I kept questioning the setup.

One thing I did like was the mood and the turns of phrase the logic of the plot felt off at times but the vibe carried me through.

Some authors deliberately write unlikable protagonists to force readers to engage with themes rather than empathy.

I did end up thinking about it long after finishing which is something even if I did not align with the acclaim.

A friend suggested a reread to see if something shifts with time or context and I am tempted yet also wary.
