How do I know if I qualify for a continuous coverage discount?
#1
So I just got my renewal notice and my premium went up by a decent chunk. I mentioned it to a coworker and he started talking about something called a continuous coverage discount, which his company gives him. I’ve been with the same insurer for five years without a single claim, but I don’t remember them ever mentioning that specific term. Is that something you usually have to ask about, or do they just apply it automatically? I’m trying to figure out if I’m missing out on something obvious here.

That renewal bump can hit hard after a stretch with no claims I get why you wonder if a continuous coverage discount exists at all and whether it applies automatically or only when you ask

That sounds like one of those things that people assume is automatic but often you have to ask to activate a discount Have you checked the policy page or called to confirm discounts?

Discounts like this depend on how the insurer tracks your loyalty and your claim history The five year streak helps but it may be offset by other factors such as rating territory vehicle type and coverage levels

I get the vibe you feel left out and annoyed It would be nice if a long streak paid off automatically

Maybe it is a misread or you assume a separate line item that shows the discount but it could be folded into the base rate as part of a loyalty bucket

Another angle is to think about value over time rather than chasing one discount The renewal price reflects many moving parts including risk and service quality and loyalty is just one factor
