How do I know if chest tension during decisions is anxiety or something else?
#1
Lately I’ve been feeling this weird tension in my chest whenever I have to make even a small decision, like what to make for dinner or whether to reply to a text right away. It’s not exactly anxiety, but more like my brain just freezes up and everything feels heavier. I’m wondering if this is a common thing with decision fatigue or if it points to something else.

Yeah that chest tension when you face small decisions does feel like decision fatigue in action, a literal heavy moment that asks you to pick one path and forget the rest.

Decision fatigue is a known pattern where mental energy dips after a string of choices, so the freezing and heaviness you describe could be a normal cue even if it doesn’t feel like anxiety.

Maybe you chalked it up to nerves, but it might be your brain treating even a simple dinner pick as a big deal; that can show up as decision fatigue or just tiredness.

I’m not sure we should call every slow moment decision fatigue; sometimes it’s just preference, habit, or being tired; still the sensation you mention deserves attention.

Challenging the frame a bit: is the bottleneck really about the decision or about the pace of your day and how much you allow yourself to pause?

It could help to reframe as a signal to automate or limit choices, like a pre set for dinners or a rule to respond at certain times, reducing decision fatigue.

I notice in my own reading and writing that small choices become little arcs; if decision fatigue rides along it changes how you show up in scenes and texts.
