How do i know if a basic tee sparks joy in konmari closet decluttering?
#1
I'm finally tackling my packed closet this weekend, and I'm trying to follow the konmari method by holding each item. The "spark joy" part is surprisingly hard for practical things like plain t-shirts or winter coats. Does anyone else struggle with this, or am I just overthinking a simple decluttering rule?

I totally get the struggle. Spark joy doesn’t have to mean fireworks every time; a shirt might not thrill you but if it’s comfortable, fits, and you reach for it, it counts. What category do you put those basics into—keepers or 'meh' ?

A lazy approach would be to dump everything that’s not worn in the last year, but that misses the point. Consider a 'utility' lens—will this coat actually keep you warm next winter? If yes, keep it.

Try the 'maybe' box for items you’re unsure of; give yourself a month to decide.

For practical items like plain tees, it’s okay if they’re boring; the point is reducing decision fatigue.

If you’re short on space, pick a minimal capsule for work items; the rest rotate out.

Share your approach—do you separate seasonal items? It’s normal to have a mixed feeling.
