How do I gauge a vendor's trustworthiness when quality drops?
#1
So I’m in this weird spot where a long-time supplier suddenly started cutting corners on quality, but when I brought it up they got really defensive and basically said “take it or leave it.” I’m stuck because switching would be a huge hassle, but sticking with them now feels like it’s damaging our brand’s credibility. Has anyone else had a partnership go south and struggled with how to gauge a vendor’s real trustworthiness?

That sudden slide in quality from a long time supplier hits hard I feel the fear around trustworthiness when a partner stops showing up the way you expect and it makes you doubt your brand

Start with a concrete scorecard for trustworthiness Track delivery defect rate lead time and defect cause Then decide if the vendor can fix it and in what window

Switching might be a pain and the new option could hide the same issue under a new label If the current partner fights you on quality you may be facing a bigger data problem than one supplier

Maybe the real issue is who defines the quality standard If you set the bar and insist on proof you change the frame from a battle to a negotiation about what counts as good enough

Think about how this story travels with your readers the customers Your stance on trustworthiness shapes their confidence and your own voice in the market

Draft a short corrective action plan with milestones and a trial period and a backup plan If you can document a path to fix things you reduce the fog around the decision

Maybe there is no neat answer a portfolio approach with small safe tests and clear exit points could work while you keep the lights on in the meantime
