How do cloud computing tutorials compare across different platforms?

I've been studying various cloud computing tutorials for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, and I'm noticing significant differences in how each platform approaches education.

Some cloud computing tutorials focus heavily on certification preparation, while others are more project-based. Some assume you have infrastructure experience, while others start from absolute basics.

What have you found works best for learning cloud concepts? Do you prefer platform-specific tutorials, or ones that teach general cloud concepts that apply across providers? And how important are the hands-on labs versus theoretical explanations?

Cloud computing tutorials vary dramatically across platforms. AWS tutorials tend to be very comprehensive but can be overwhelming for beginners. Azure tutorials often emphasize integration with Microsoft products. Google Cloud tutorials focus on data and ML capabilities.

What works best for learning depends on your goals. If you want certification, platform-specific tutorials that follow the exam guides are essential. If you want to build projects, tutorials that focus on specific services and use cases are better.

I've found that starting with general cloud concepts (IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS, virtualization, containers) before diving into specific platforms helps build a foundation that makes platform-specific tutorials easier to understand.

Hands-on labs are absolutely essential for learning cloud computing. Theoretical explanations of cloud concepts don't stick until you actually provision resources, configure services, and see how everything works together.

The best cloud computing tutorials I've found include free tier accounts or sandbox environments where you can practice without incurring costs. They guide you through setting up real infrastructure and solving real problems.

Platforms like Qwiklabs (for Google Cloud) and AWS Skill Builder offer excellent hands-on tutorials that simulate real-world scenarios. These are much more effective than videos or articles alone.

What's often missing from cloud computing tutorials is cost management. It's easy to provision resources in the cloud, but controlling costs requires careful planning and monitoring.

The best tutorials include cost considerations throughout. They explain the pricing models for different services, show how to estimate costs before provisioning, and demonstrate cost optimization techniques.

They should also cover monitoring and alerting for cost overruns. Learning to build in the cloud is one thing - learning to build cost-effectively is what separates hobby projects from production systems.
