How can I develop a daily meditation routine that actually sticks?

I've tried to start a daily meditation routine so many times but I always fall off after a week or two. The problem is I either set unrealistic expectations or I get bored with the same thing every day.

What's worked for you all in terms of creating a sustainable daily meditation routine? I'm not looking for anything fancy - just something consistent that helps with present moment awareness without taking up too much time.

Do you meditate at the same time every day? How long do you recommend starting with? And what do you do when you just don't feel like doing it? I need practical tips from people who've actually made this work long term.
