I'm a moderator for a small online community and we're struggling with how to encourage more user-generated content. Our members are active in discussions but rarely start their own threads or share their own projects. We've tried weekly prompts and featured member spotlights, but engagement hasn't really picked up. I'm looking for ideas on what actually motivates people to create and share original posts. Has anyone successfully turned a passive forum into a more creative and contributor-driven space? What strategies worked for you?

Totally hear you I ran a small forum and the turning point was a regular creator day with simple post templates and a welcoming vibe.

Prompts alone rarely spark real posts you also need visible incentives and a culture that celebrates fresh ideas not just long debates.

In my setup we added monthly micro challenges where people post one image one paragraph and one idea plus quick feedback that boosted starter posts.

Focus on reducing friction make posting effortless give templates and examples and tag important threads so people see where to begin.
