How can a diverse book club meet monthly without endless genre debates?
#1
A few friends and I want to start a casual book club to make sure we actually read for pleasure again, but we're struggling to settle on a format because our tastes are all over the map, from literary fiction to sci-fi and nonfiction. We need some solid book club ideas that can accommodate diverse preferences without every meeting turning into a debate about genre merits. We're thinking of meeting monthly, either in person at a local pub or over video chat. For those in successful long-running clubs, how did you decide what to read—did you rotate who chooses, vote on themes, or use another system? What discussion formats kept the conversation flowing naturally beyond just going around in a circle saying whether you liked the book, and how did you handle it when most people didn't finish the selection?
