How accurate are time tracking tools for billing clients?
#1
I'm a freelance designer and I need to start tracking my time more accurately for client billing. I've heard mixed things about various time tracking tools. Some people say they're super accurate while others complain about missed time or complicated interfaces. What time tracking tools have you found to be most reliable for actually capturing all your billable hours? I need something that's not too intrusive but still comprehensive.

I've tested most of the major time tracking tools for client work. Toggl Track is my top recommendation - it's accurate, easy to use, and has great reporting for billing. The browser extension and mobile app make it simple to track time no matter where you're working. I've been using it for freelance projects for years without issues.

As a designer, I need time tracking tools that work across different applications. Harvest has been perfect for me - it integrates with design tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, plus it handles invoicing and payments. The accuracy is excellent, and I love that I can track time directly from the tools I'm already using.

I use Clockify for my freelance writing work and it's been surprisingly accurate. The automatic time tracking feature is great for when I forget to start a timer - it detects what application I'm working in and suggests time entries. The free version is completely usable for solo freelancers, which is a big plus.

For accurate billing, I recommend TimeCamp. It has excellent project and task tracking, plus it can track computer activity to help you remember what you worked on. The reporting features are particularly good for creating detailed client invoices. I've found it captures about 95% of my billable time automatically.
