I'm analyzing shifting public attitudes towards international trade and immigration in several Western democracies over the past decade, and I'm struck by the divergence between elite economic consensus and populist sentiment. My research suggests media framing and perceptions of cultural threat are significant drivers. For other political scientists or sociologists studying this, what are the most robust comparative datasets or longitudinal surveys you've used to track these opinion trends, and how do you effectively isolate the effects of economic anxiety from cultural or identity-based concerns in your models?
