I'm on a Mac and looking for free video editing software for mac beginners. I know iMovie comes pre-installed, but I'm wondering if there are better free alternatives out there. Something that's more powerful than iMovie but still beginner-friendly would be ideal.

On Mac, iMovie is actually really solid free video editing software for mac beginners. It comes pre-installed on most Macs and has everything you need to start. The interface is clean, it's optimized for macOS, and the learning resources are plentiful. Don't dismiss it just because it's free with your computer!

DaVinci Resolve has a great Mac version too. It's probably the most professional-grade free video editing software for mac beginners can access. The color grading tools alone are worth learning. Just be aware it needs a decent Mac to run smoothly - older machines might struggle.

Shotcut and OpenShot both have Mac versions that work well. They're not as polished as iMovie but offer more features. If you're looking for free video editing software for mac beginners who might want to switch to Final Cut Pro eventually, starting with DaVinci Resolve makes sense since the workflow is more similar.

For Mac users on a budget, iMovie really is the best starting point. It's surprisingly capable and integrates perfectly with the Apple ecosystem. When you outgrow it, you'll have a good foundation for moving to more advanced software. Many successful creators started with iMovie as their free video editing software for mac beginners.
