Finding consistent gaming partners vs joining established clans

I'm trying to decide between finding consistent gaming partners to form a new group or joining an established clan. What are the pros and cons of each approach? I've had mixed experiences with both. When I try to find consistent gaming partners individually, it's hard to get everyone on the same schedule. But when I join established active gaming teams, sometimes the existing dynamics are hard to break into. Has anyone successfully built a group from scratch using gaming partner finder tools? Or is it better to use clan recruitment networks to find existing active gaming crews? I'm looking for regular multiplayer groups that actually play together consistently, not just in name only.
