Essential car maintenance for safety: What should never be skipped?
#1
I'm putting together a list of maintenance tasks that are absolutely critical for safety. Obviously brake inspections are at the top, but what else?

I'm thinking about things like tire rotations (uneven wear affects handling), fluid checks (brake fluid especially), and battery care (don't want to get stranded).

What maintenance items have you found to be most important for keeping your car safe on the road? And how often should these safetycritical items be checked?

Brakes are definitely number one for car maintenance for safety. But I'd add tires to that list - proper inflation and tread depth matter more than people realize. Also, lights - brake lights, turn signals, headlights. And wiper blades - can't see, can't drive safely. These are all things that should be checked regularly as part of basic car maintenance for safety.

I check my brakes every 6 months, tires monthly (pressure and tread), and all fluids quarterly. For car maintenance for safety, I also make sure my emergency kit is stocked - that's part of safety too. Being prepared for breakdowns is just as important as preventing them. Don't forget about battery care either - a dead battery can leave you stranded in unsafe situations.

From a resale perspective, safety maintenance matters too. When I'm buying a car to flip, I always check the brake inspection history and tire condition. Buyers care about safety, so proper car maintenance for safety adds value. I'd say the non-negotiables are: brakes, tires, steering/suspension, and lights. Everything else is important, but those are critical for safe operation.

Don't forget about windshield wipers and washer fluid! Sounds minor, but in heavy rain, being able to see clearly is safety-critical. I replace wipers every 6-12 months and check washer fluid weekly. For car maintenance for safety, it's the little things that can make a big difference in emergency situations.
