Electric bus rollout: upfront depot charging costs and winter range on routes
#1
I work for a small municipal transit authority, and we're in the early planning stages of transitioning part of our fleet to electric buses. Our main concern is the upfront infrastructure cost for charging depots and whether the current battery range is sufficient for our longer suburban routes, especially in winter. For other cities or agencies that have begun this shift, what were the most significant operational hurdles you faced regarding charging logistics and route planning, and how did the real-world total cost of ownership compare to your initial projections?
