Does consciousness play a role in quantum mechanics?

I've heard some people claim that consciousness causes the collapse of the wave function in quantum mechanics. Is there any scientific basis for this quantum mechanics consciousness connection? Or is this just misinterpretation of the measurement problem? What do physicists actually think about the role of observation in quantum mechanics? And how does this relate to different interpretations like Copenhagen vs many-worlds?
