DIY lighting projects for ambient lighting?

I want to improve the lighting in my living room but store-bought lamps are so expensive. Any good DIY lighting projects that create nice ambient lighting? I'm looking for beginner friendly DIY ideas that don't require advanced electrical skills. Maybe something using string lights, jars, or other repurposed materials?
