Caring for an elderly parent after a possible TIA: silent stroke signs at home
#1
My father, who is in his late seventies, recently had a frightening episode of sudden confusion and weakness that thankfully passed quickly, but it has our whole family concerned about recognizing stroke symptoms. His doctor called it a possible TIA and ordered tests, but I want to be absolutely prepared in case it happens again when I'm with him. Beyond the common FAST acronym, what are the less obvious or silent signs of a stroke that people might miss, especially in older adults? For those who have cared for a loved one after a stroke, what practical steps did you take to make your home safer and communication easier during recovery, and how did you manage the emotional impact on both the patient and the family caregivers?
