Caregiver guidance for COPD: inhaler technique, rehab, breathing techniques.
#1
My father was recently diagnosed with moderate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease after decades of smoking, and I'm trying to help him understand and manage his new reality, especially since he's feeling very discouraged. His doctor prescribed a combination inhaler and recommended pulmonary rehabilitation, but he's resistant to the idea of exercise and struggles with the proper inhaler technique. For children or caregivers of COPD patients, what approaches have you found effective for encouraging adherence to treatment and a more active lifestyle without causing conflict? I'm also looking for resources to help him learn breathing techniques and manage the anxiety that comes with shortness of breath.
