I've been getting conflicting advice about tire rotation. Some say every 5,000 miles, others say every 7,500 or even 10,000. My mechanic recommends every oil change, but that seems excessive.

What's the actual benefit of regular tire rotation? Is it just about even wear, or are there safety implications too? And does the type of tires matter - all-season vs performance vs winter tires?

Also, is this something a beginner can do themselves, or should it be left to professionals?
