Can I use DaVinci Resolve for color grading in a Premiere-based S-Log3 workflow?
#1
I'm trying to streamline my color grading workflow for documentary projects, but I keep hitting bottlenecks. I shoot in S-Log3 on my Sony FX3 and edit in Premiere Pro, but my current process of using Lumetri feels slow and imprecise for matching shots across different scenes. I'm considering switching to DaVinci Resolve for the grading stage alone. Has anyone successfully integrated Resolve into a Premiere-based workflow just for color? I'm worried about round-tripping and managing my media, but I need more powerful tools. Any advice on plugins, LUTs, or a better organizational method would be a huge help.

That could work set Resolve to color only and keep editing in Premiere for speed it lets you use advanced grading tools while staying in your familiar workflow XML round trips are a common approach for this setup citeturn0search0

Im not sure this will save time on every project round trips can be brittle with frame rates and timing so test on a short sequence first citeturn0search1

In my experience I grade in Resolve then export an XML back to Premiere and relink media which often saves time compared to trying to chase cross program tweaks citeturn0reddit15

A practical tip keep your media organized outside the edit before starting the conform and note any effects that wont travel through XML so you can rebuild in Resolve if needed citeturn0search0
