Are there any book fairs this year that focus on specific genres or new authors?

I love book fairs but the big ones like Frankfurt and London can be overwhelming and mostly focused on industry professionals. I'm looking for book fairs this year that are more accessible to regular readers and maybe focus on specific genres or highlighting new authors.

Are there book fairs this year that have strong programming for fantasy/sci-fi, mystery, romance, or other specific genres? Or events that really prioritize debut authors and smaller presses?

I'm also interested in book fairs this year that have good author events, workshops, or networking opportunities for aspiring writers. Any recommendations for events that strike a good balance between industry and fan engagement?

There are some great genre-specific book fairs this year. I know of one that focuses entirely on speculative fiction - fantasy, sci-fi, horror. They have author signings, writing workshops, and even a small press showcase. For book fairs this year looking to highlight new authors, there's another event that gives prominent placement to debut novels and has a first-time authors" track with special programming.

Some of the best book fairs this year for connecting with authors are the smaller literary festivals rather than the huge trade shows. There's one in a college town that brings in emerging writers for readings and discussions, and the atmosphere is much more intimate than the big industry events. These book fairs this year often have better opportunities for actual conversations with writers.

I've seen some book fairs this year that are doing hybrid models really well. They have in-person events but also virtual components that include online author Q&As and digital exhibitor halls. This makes these book fairs this year more accessible to people who can't travel, and it allows smaller presses from around the world to participate without the cost of shipping books and setting up booths.
