Are Ford trucks really that good for high mileage reliability?

I keep hearing about Ford trucks high mileage stories, particularly the older F-150s with the 4.6L and 5.4L engines. I've seen a few Ford trucks with over 300k miles, but I'm wondering how common this really is.

What's the real story with Ford truck durability 200k miles? Are there specific engines or model years that are known for better longevity? I'm particularly interested in the difference between gas and diesel engines when it comes to high mileage reliability.

Ford trucks high mileage stories are definitely real, especially with the diesel models. The 7.3L PowerStroke is legendary - I've documented several with 500k+ miles still working. The key is maintenance, especially fuel system care.

For gas engines, the 300 inline-6 is practically indestructible. I've seen those engines in F-150s and F-250s with 400k+ miles. The 4.6L and 5.4L modular V8s can also last if you keep up with spark plug changes and address timing chain issues early.

Truck durability 200k miles seems to be where Ford really shines. My work has several Ford E-350 vans with the 5.4L engine that have 250k+ miles and are still in daily service for deliveries.

The transmissions in these trucks seem to be the weak point sometimes. We've had to rebuild a few at around 200k miles, but the engines keep going. Regular fluid changes and not towing over capacity seems to help them last.

I've seen some impressive Ford truck longevity in rural areas. A farmer near me has a 1992 F-250 with the 7.3L IDI diesel (non-turbo) that has 485,000 miles. It's used for farm work and looks beat up, but it starts every time.

The simplicity of those older diesels seems to contribute to their longevity. Fewer electronics, simpler fuel systems - they're easier to keep running at high mileage than modern diesels with all the emissions equipment.

Comparing Ford trucks to Chevrolet, I think both can achieve high mileage with proper care. The Ford 6.7L PowerStroke seems to be holding up well in newer trucks, though we haven't seen enough of them at 300k+ miles yet.

What's interesting is how well the Ford Ranger holds up. I've seen several of the older 4-cylinder Rangers with 300k+ miles. They're simple, lightweight trucks that seem to last forever with basic maintenance.
