Android Auto keeps disconnecting with my Samsung in a new car

I just bought a new car that supports Android Auto, but I'm having a frustrating issue getting it to connect reliably with my Samsung phone. It works perfectly about half the time, but the other half it either doesn't recognize the phone at all or the connection drops randomly during navigation. I've tried different USB cables, updated the phone's software and the car's firmware, and toggled all the relevant settings, but the problem persists. Has anyone else dealt with this intermittent connectivity and found a permanent fix?
