I recently moved to a suburban area and, working from home, I'm finding it difficult to meet people outside of my immediate neighbors. I'm interested in joining some local community clubs, maybe a book club or a casual hiking group, but I'm unsure how to find them beyond generic searches that mostly turn up outdated websites or inactive Facebook pages. For those who have successfully connected with clubs in a new area, what methods or resources did you find most effective? I'm particularly interested in whether community centers, libraries, or local newspapers are still the best hubs for this information, or if there are specific apps or online platforms that have active listings for smaller, informal groups that aren't necessarily registered as official organizations.
