Full Version: What’s a realistic daily budget for Prague, Vienna, and Budapest on a two-week backp

I'm planning a two-week solo trip through Central Europe next spring, and I'm committed to making it a genuine budget travel experience by staying in hostels, using regional trains, and eating locally, but I'm worried about underestimating daily costs in cities like Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. For seasoned backpackers or frugal travelers who've recently done a similar route, what was your realistic daily spending average excluding flights, and where did you find the best value for accommodation and meals? I'm also looking for specific tips on free walking tours, affordable museum passes, and any off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods that offered a more authentic and less expensive experience than the main tourist centers.
Here's a realistic ballpark for a 14-day budget trip through Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, staying in hostels and eating locally. Daily spend (excluding flights) tends to cluster like this: Prague about €40–70/day (dorms cheaper, private rooms a bit more, street eats keep costs down), Vienna about €60–110/day (private rooms pull the daily up, but you can still keep meals simple), Budapest about €40–70/day (generally the most affordable). Intercity trains between the three cities add roughly €25–50 total if you book in advance. So a tight 14-day budget without luxury, meals out every meal, sits around €900–€1200, plus a bit for incidental museum entries or a splurge. Prices vary by season and how comfortable you want to travel.
