I'm seriously considering making the switch to an electric vehicle for my next car, primarily for my 50-mile daily round-trip commute, but I'm stuck trying to weigh the long-term savings against the higher upfront cost and my concerns about battery longevity. I'm looking at models like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3, and while the fuel and maintenance savings are appealing, I'm worried about the real-world degradation of the battery over, say, an eight-year ownership period and the potential cost of a replacement outside of warranty. For current EV owners who've had their vehicles for several years, what has your actual experience been with battery health and overall cost of ownership? How did the math on savings versus a comparable gas car actually work out for you, and are there any specific models or battery technologies known for better long-term durability that I should prioritize in my research?
