I'm a graphic designer working on a rebranding project for a wellness startup, and I'm struggling to apply color theory effectively to evoke the right emotions of calm, trust, and natural energy. My initial palettes either feel too clinical and cold or too earthy and muted, failing to strike that modern, vibrant yet soothing balance the client wants. I understand the basics of the color wheel and complementary schemes, but I'm getting lost in the nuances of saturation, value, and how to build a hierarchical system for primary, secondary, and accent colors across digital and print materials. For designers experienced in branding, how do you move beyond basic theory to develop a sophisticated, functional palette? What's your process for testing color combinations for accessibility and psychological impact, and are there any tools or resources you use to find inspiration and ensure consistency across a full brand ecosystem?
