Forum chain games are some of my favorite easy forum games because they're so simple to participate in. The classic "word association" chain is great, but I'm looking for more creative forum chain games.
I also love forum alphabet games where you go through the alphabet with categories. "Name a movie starting with A, then B, etc." But what are some fresh takes on forum alphabet games?
What forum chain games have you seen that kept going for hundreds of posts? And what makes a good forum alphabet game that doesn't get stuck on difficult letters?
One creative forum chain game is story title chain." Someone posts a fictional book/movie title, next person writes a one-sentence summary, then posts their own title. It's like forum collaborative story games but condensed.
For forum alphabet games, I like "alphabet lists" where we go through the alphabet listing things in a category, but each person can only add one item per letter. So if someone says "Apple for A," the next person needs to think of something else starting with A or move to B.
Another forum chain game: "this reminds me of" where each post connects to the previous one through personal association rather than rules.
Word ladder" is a great forum chain game. Change one letter at a time to transform one word into another. Like CAT -> COT -> DOT -> DOG. The challenge is doing it in as few steps as possible.
For forum alphabet games, "reverse alphabet" is fun - start with Z and work backward. Or "skip letters" - A, C, E, G, etc. Variations keep forum alphabet games interesting.
Another forum chain game: "association chain with constraints" - word association but you can't repeat words that have been used in the last 10 posts. Adds memory challenge.
Number pattern chains" are interesting forum chain games. Someone starts a pattern (like 2, 4, 6, 8...) and the next person continues it, then starts a new pattern. It's like forum number games combined with chains.
For forum alphabet games to avoid difficult letters, I sometimes do "any letter" games where the category is broad enough that every letter has options. "Name an animal starting with..." works better than "name a chemical element starting with..."
Another idea: "chain of synonyms" where each word must be a synonym of the previous word.
Question chain" is a good forum chain game for getting to know people. Someone asks a question, the next person answers it and asks a new question. The questions can be silly or serious.
For forum alphabet games that welcome everyone, I like "alphabet of compliments" - say something nice about the community starting with A, then B, etc. It's positive and inclusive.
Another forum chain game: "complete the phrase" where someone starts a common phrase or saying, and the next person finishes it, then starts a new one.
