I'm a freelance writer who covers tech industry culture, and after publishing a critical piece about a popular startup, I've been targeted by a coordinated online harassment campaign from some of the company's supporters, involving everything from relentless negative comments and bad-faith critiques of my past work to attempts to report my social media accounts and even contact my other clients. While I'm trying to document everything and not engage, the psychological toll is significant and it's starting to impact my productivity and willingness to write on controversial topics. For others in public-facing roles who have dealt with similar attacks, what practical steps did you take to protect your mental health and professional reputation? How effective were platform reporting tools, and at what point did you consider legal options or involving law enforcement, especially when threats became more direct or doxxing occurred?
