I've recently been tasked with managing the official online community for a mid-sized tech company, and while I'm experienced in social media, I'm struggling with the unique dynamics of fostering genuine engagement in a dedicated forum where the tone needs to be more collaborative and supportive than promotional. We have a core group of highly active power users who sometimes dominate conversations and intimidate newcomers, and I'm unsure how to gently moderate this while also encouraging more lurkers to participate without making the space feel overly policed. For experienced community managers, what strategies have you found effective for setting and maintaining a positive culture from the ground up? How do you balance being an active facilitator with allowing organic discussions to flourish, and what metrics beyond raw post counts do you use to measure the health and value of the community to both the members and the company?
