I feel like I might be missing out on deductions every year. I have a pretty standard situation - homeowner with mortgage interest, property taxes, charitable donations, some medical expenses, and work-related expenses.

I'm wondering which tax software is actually best at finding deductions you might not think of. I've heard some software asks more thorough questions than others.

What's your experience with different programs when it comes to finding deductions? Do some tax software for saving money actually help you find more deductions than others? I want to make sure I'm not leaving money on the table just because my software isn't asking the right questions.
In my professional testing, I've found that TurboTax tends to be the most thorough when it comes to finding deductions. Their interview process asks more detailed questions than other software, which can uncover deductions you might not have thought of.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean TurboTax is the best tax software for deductions for everyone. The key is being thorough in your answers. If you rush through or skip questions, you'll miss deductions regardless of which software you use.

What I recommend: Use the software that asks the most questions and take your time answering them thoroughly. Also, keep a list of potential deductions throughout the year so you don't forget anything come tax time.

Some software, like TurboTax, has a Deduction Finder" tool that asks specific questions about your life situation to uncover deductions.
