I've been editing my travel documentary footage in DaVinci Resolve, and while I'm comfortable with the basic correction tools, I'm completely lost when it comes to creative color grading to establish a consistent, cinematic look that enhances the story rather than just making the shots look technically correct. I've tried applying popular LUTs, but they often feel overpowering and don't translate well across my different clips, which were shot in various locations and lighting conditions, leaving my project looking disjointed. For editors who have developed a more intuitive approach to color grading, how did you move beyond presets to develop your own style? What is your typical node structure or workflow for building a grade from scratch, and how do you manage to maintain visual coherence across an entire project with so many variables?
