I'm helping to establish a new online support community for people managing a specific chronic health condition, and we're in the process of drafting our foundational community guidelines before we officially launch and open registration to the public. Our primary goal is to create a safe, empathetic space for sharing experiences and advice, but we're acutely aware of the risks posed by medical misinformation, well-intentioned but harmful anecdotal suggestions, and the potential for triggering discussions. For founders of similar health-focused communities, what key clauses did you include in your guidelines to preempt these issues while still encouraging open support? How do you enforce rules around unscientific claims without shutting down personal stories, and what has been your experience with requiring moderator approval for first posts versus a more reactive moderation approach?
