I've struggled with persistent adult acne for years, cycling through countless over-the-counter products with benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid that either dry my skin out terribly or stop working after a few weeks, leaving me frustrated and self-conscious. I finally saw a dermatologist who prescribed a topical retinoid and antibiotic, but I'm worried about the long-term use of antibiotics and the initial purging phase I've read about with retinoids. For others who have found an effective long-term acne treatment regimen, what prescription or combination approach finally worked for you? How did you manage the side effects and skin sensitivity during the adjustment period, and are there specific non-prescription supportive products or lifestyle changes that made a significant difference in maintaining clear skin?
