I'm a freelance graphic designer who just landed a much larger project with a corporate client, and they've sent over a multi-page business contract full of legal jargon about intellectual property, liability, and termination clauses that I don't fully understand. While the project scope and fee seem fair, I'm worried about signing something that could inadvertently give away rights to my design process or leave me exposed to unreasonable penalties if there are delays outside my control. I can't afford a lawyer for a full review right now. For other freelancers and small business owners, how do you navigate reviewing business contracts on your own? What are the most critical clauses you always scrutinize or negotiate, and are there any reliable online resources or checklists you've used to educate yourself on standard contract terms for creative services?
