I just finished my second playthrough of Elden Ring and I'm craving another massive, immersive open-world game that prioritizes exploration and discovery over a cluttered map full of repetitive icons. I've played the major titles like Skyrim, The Witcher 3, and Breath of the Wild, so I'm looking for something perhaps a bit more recent or underrated that captures that same sense of wonder and freedom. For fellow explorers, what are the best open-world games you've experienced in the last few years that truly reward curiosity with meaningful secrets and environmental storytelling? How do newer games balance scale with density, and are there any titles that have particularly innovative approaches to navigation or removing traditional waypoint reliance?
