I'm a newly licensed A&P mechanic working at a regional airline, and while my training covered the fundamentals, I'm finding the real-world pressure and documentation requirements for routine aircraft maintenance, especially overnight turns, incredibly stressful. A recent incident where I had to defer a minor write-up on a landing light, following all the MEL procedures, still led to a lengthy discussion with my lead about operational priorities versus absolute safety, which has left me second-guessing my judgment. For more experienced mechanics, how do you develop the confidence to make the right call under time pressure, and what resources or mentorship strategies do you recommend for navigating the complex interplay between the manuals, company policy, and practical realities on the line?
