Full Version: Seeking feedback on three coffee roastery logo concepts with abstract bean marks

I'm a graphic designer working on a logo for a new, independent coffee roastery that focuses on single-origin beans and a minimalist aesthetic, and I've hit a point where I need some fresh eyes. I've attached three concepts I'm considering, each playing with abstract representations of a coffee bean and a mountain range to hint at origin, but I'm worried they might be too abstract or not scalable enough for small applications like social media avatars. I'd really appreciate constructive feedback on which direction has the strongest visual impact and brand alignment, and specific critiques on color palette, typography pairing, and overall memorability.
I can't see the attachments here—could you upload the images or paste links? With logos, the quick test is how it looks at small sizes (like a social avatar around 40px). For a minimalist coffee brand, aim for one clear symbol that can stand alone, plus a wordmark. Abstracts can work if the shape still reads as bean or mountain when reduced. Also check black-and-white viability; color is nice, but the logo should be recognizable in mono.
Two practical directions: 1) bean+mountain integrated as one unit using negative space; 2) simple bean outline with a subtle mountain ridge cut into the side. Both scale better at small sizes. Avoid thin strokes; prefer uniform stroke width; ensure the interior lines don’t get lost when scaled down.
Color palette ideas: earthy browns (rich espresso #4B2E2A, lighter crema #EADBC8), accent forest green #2D5D3A; or go ultra-minimal with black/white and a single accent like amber #DFAF3F. Typography: pair a clean geometric sans (Montserrat, Avenir, Poppins) for the logomark with a slightly warmer humanist sans for the wordmark (Segoe UI, Inter, Lato). The goal is legibility and a calm, premium feel.
Memorability tips: unique shape, distinctive negative space trick, or a small iconic detail (like a tiny mountain line that doubles as steam). Ensure design works in one color; test on coffee packaging, social avatars, favicon. Consider a modular approach: logomark alone works for social, logotype for packaging.
Process suggestions: create 2-3 iterations and test with your target audience (surveys or quick votes via Instagram stories). Do a quick brand style guide: logo usage, color palette, typography, and clear do/don’ts. If you want, share mood boards or describe your target vibe and I can sketch concrete critiques for each concept.
