I'm organizing a weekend retreat for my department at work, and we have several new team members who haven't met everyone in person yet, so I want to start our first session with some effective icebreaker games that are more engaging than just stating your name and role. I'm looking for activities that can work for a group of about twenty people with mixed personalities, preferably something that encourages genuine conversation and collaboration rather than just awkward small talk. For other facilitators or team leads, what specific icebreaker games have you used that successfully broke down barriers and set a positive, collaborative tone for the rest of your event? How do you handle participants who are more introverted or resistant to these kinds of activities to ensure everyone feels included without being put on the spot?
