I'm a freelance videographer working on a short documentary with a lot of mixed lighting conditions, from bright outdoor interviews to dimly lit indoor scenes, and I'm struggling to achieve a consistent, cinematic look in my color grading. I use DaVinci Resolve and understand the basics of primary correction, but my attempts at creating a cohesive filmic look often end up making the footage look either too flat or unnaturally stylized. For other colorists, what is your workflow for balancing shots from such varied sources? How do you approach building a custom LUT or power grade that unifies the project, and are there specific techniques or scopes you rely on to ensure skin tones remain natural while pushing the overall look?
