I'm a high school teacher trying to explicitly teach metacognition to my students to help them become more independent learners, but I'm finding it difficult to move beyond just telling them to "think about their thinking." I want to design activities that help them identify their own knowledge gaps and select effective study strategies. For educators who have successfully integrated this into their curriculum, what are some practical classroom exercises or questioning techniques that actually foster metacognitive awareness? How do you assess whether students are developing these skills, and what are some common hurdles you've encountered when students initially resist reflecting on their own learning processes?
