I just bought my first motorcycle, a used standard bike, and while I'm excited to learn basic maintenance myself, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the recommended service intervals and what I can realistically handle in a home garage versus what needs a professional mechanic. I want to keep it reliable for daily commuting. For experienced riders who do their own work, what are the most critical weekly or monthly checks I should be doing? How difficult is a basic chain adjustment and lubrication, and what specialized tools would you recommend I invest in first, like a rear stand or a good torque wrench?
