Sometimes research reveals human behavior that completely contradicts what we think should happen. Like studies showing that people are more honest when they think they're being watched by eyespots, or how adding more options can decrease satisfaction rather than increase it.

What human behavior surprises have you encountered in research that challenged common sense assumptions? I'm looking for findings that make you question basic intuitions about why people do what they do.
