I've been struggling with persistent low mood, loss of interest, and fatigue for over a year, and my primary care doctor has suggested we explore depression treatment options beyond the initial SSRI I tried, which caused difficult side effects. I'm feeling overwhelmed by the choices, from different medication classes to various forms of therapy like CBT or DBT. I'm also curious about newer approaches like TMS but don't know much about their accessibility or effectiveness. For those who have navigated this process, how did you and your doctor decide on a path forward after a first medication didn't work? What questions should I be asking to find a treatment that addresses both the biochemical and cognitive aspects of this, and how important was finding a specialist versus working with your regular doctor?
