I'm finally upgrading my old 60Hz monitor and want to invest in a solid 144Hz display primarily for competitive FPS games, but I'm getting lost in the specs. My budget is around $300, and I'm trying to decide between a TN panel for the fastest response time or an IPS for better colors, since I also do some photo editing. I have a graphics card that can push high frame rates at 1080p. For gamers who made a similar switch, what was the most noticeable improvement, and are there specific models in this price range you'd recommend? I'm also unsure if things like adaptive sync are essential or if I should prioritize a lower response time above all else.
IPS 144Hz is the sweet spot if you game a lot and also do photo work. For about $300 you’ll find reliable 24 models like LG 24GN600-B, AOC 24G2, and ViewSonic XG2405. They’re generally IPS, offer 144Hz, FreeSync (or FreeSync with G-Sync compatibility), and good color out of the box. At 1080p a 24" keeps things sharp; a 27" can start to look soft unless you go 1440p or sit farther away.
