Full Version: How to conserve Pirelli slicks and plan essential spares for regional GT3?

I'm planning my first season in a regional GT3 racing series next year, driving a used Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car I recently purchased. My background is in club racing with much slower production-based cars, so the jump in speed and downforce is a bit intimidating. I'm trying to put together a realistic budget and preparation plan. My biggest question is about tire management over a stint; in testing, I seem to overdrive the car for the first few laps and then my times fall off dramatically. For those with GT3 racing experience, what's the most effective way to practice conserving the Pirelli slicks while still maintaining a competitive pace? Also, any advice on essential spares to keep in the trailer would be incredibly helpful.
Great topic for GT3 racing. Treat tire wear as a pacing target not just speed. Start stints with a cautious pace for the first lap or two to avoid overheating then ease into rhythm to hold a steady lap time. Use data like tire temps and wear from the session to adjust. Set a tire budget and stick to it, smooth inputs, avoid late braking and big swings in throttle.
Totally agree with starting conservative and setting a tire budget. Add practice pit stops to keep pace while preserving grip and look at line choices that reduce tire scrub.
Watch tire temperature spikes and try to hold a consistent brake point to avoid chattering the tires. Small corrections and steady steering help keep the wear even.
For spares bring extra tires wheel sets brake pads rotors brake fluid coolant hoses belts a small tool kit and a portable air compressor for on track adjustments
