My car's check engine light came on and now it's making a weird rattling noise, I was just driving home from work yesterday and the light popped on, and now there's this metallic rattling sound coming from the front passenger side whenever I go over a bump or accelerate. It's a 2018 sedan with about 80k miles. I'm worried it's something serious with the suspension or maybe a heat shield came loose. I have a basic OBD2 scanner but the code it gave me was super generic. I'm not sure if I should take it to my usual mechanic or just to a dealership for a diagnostic.
That sounds serious a check engine light plus a rattling from the front is not something to ignore you should get it scanned soon so you dont regret it later
If the noise is from the front it could be a loose heat shield or suspension part a quick diagnostic will tell you what needs fixing
In my experience a stubborn generic code usually means more digging is needed dont trust just one reading get a full diagnostic
Best move is to book an appointment at an shop you trust and avoid driving too far until you know its safe to drive
